Alecia A. Waite
Alecia, an International Studies and Chinese major, is president and co-founder of Roots and Shoots on the University of Mississippi campus. She coordinated the University's first "Grove Recycling" among football tailgaters, as well as the first "Focus the Nation" event. Alecia has interned at an environmental NGO in Beijing, China, researched environmental security issues in Cambodia, and is currently writing her honors thesis on the environmental politics surrounding the Beijing Olympics. She will volunteer at the Olympics this summer, and then direct-enroll at the People's University of China. Alecia is also president of her school's Model UN club, plays intramural soccer, and has served as a teaching assistant in the Chinese department. Alecia enjoys walking, running, hiking, and trying her best to surf.

How can you describe a weekend of student leaders from across the U.S. with an intense passion to change the world? The Orientation was a phenomenal experience to meet and build connections that I'm sure will last a lifetime.
