Kim is a junior in environmental engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is researching mechanisms to degrade pharmaceuticals in drinking water, a growing threat to water supplies worldwide. Also, she is the project lead for the Engineers without Borders Guatemala Water Project, which researches improvements in biosand filter design while simultaneously installing 150 biosand filters in a rural village in Guatemala.
