Akhila is a sophomore environmental studies major (biology/ecology track) and public health minor. She plans to pursue an MD/PhD in the fields of environmental health/epidemiology, focusing on bottom-up solutions that emphasize environmental concerns when empowering communities to take charge of their own health and development to ensure access to basic needs. She is co-founder of the nonprofit Crafts By Youth (www.CraftsByYouth.com) that empowers youth in rural Uganda by selling their environmentally-friendly jewelry (featured in her Scholar photo). She loves community service and volunteers with various environmental/health community initiatives and regularly participates in service trips. She enjoys smiling and being active!
