Rowan I. Sprague
University of Virginia

Rowan is a third-year civil and environmental engineering major at the University of Virginia. Pursuing her interests in sustainable agriculture, she helped establish a one-acre student farm near her university’s campus to confront the disconnection between the school community and the local food system. To help meet this goal, she started a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program allowing students and faculty to engage in the process of growing food. Using her background in engineering, she intends to explore techniques that reduce the intensive use of fossil fuels while boosting the health of the environment.
