Liliana Graciela C Astiz
A 2009 Gates Millennium scholar, Liliana specializes in issues of water protection and sustainability and studies how trends of social movements evolve under changing global environmental conditions. After working as a student organizer in NYC, she founded the action group Students Against Hydrofracking to ban the detrimental process in NY state. Liliana has studied with civil rights leaders and was one of 40 students chosen to be a 2011 Student Freedom Rider and retrace the original 1961 route. She hopes to pursue a career in water justice and sustainability and eventually start her own venture to solve issues of water scarcity and contamination world-wide.

How can you describe a weekend of student leaders from across the U.S. with an intense passion to change the world? The Orientation was a phenomenal experience to meet and build connections that I'm sure will last a lifetime.
