Rachel J. Manning
Oberlin College

Rachel J. Manning
Rachel Manning is a junior at Oberlin College, majoring in sociology and East Asian studies (Chinese language concentration). Her activities on and off campus have revolved largely around food access initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation. Rachel co-founded the Mountain Garden Initiative during the summer of 2012, after being awarded the $10,000 Dalai Lama Fellowship grant and Oberlin College's Creativity and Leadership grant. This project installs school gardens and develops curriculum to teach kids about sustainable agriculture, environmental respect, science, self-reliance, and healthy lifestyles. Rachel hopes to continue working on sustainable agriculture and public health initiatives after graduation.

How can you describe a weekend of student leaders from across the U.S. with an intense passion to change the world? The Orientation was a phenomenal experience to meet and build connections that I'm sure will last a lifetime.
