COUNCIL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY RELEASES 10-YEAR REPORT HIGHLIGHTING THE QUANTIFIABLE BENEFITS OF ENVIRONMENTAL COLLABORATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) released a report highlighting the quantifiable benefits of environmental collaboration and conflict resolution (ECCR) tools and techniques in government processes. Produced by the Federal Forum on Environmental Collaboration and Conflict Resolution (ECCR Forum), the report incorporates 10 years of lessons learned and best practices accumulated since formal reporting on the use of ECCR in Federal agencies began in 2006. The Udall Foundation’s U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution convenes the ECCR Forum, which was established to provide advice and guidance and facilitate exchange on ECCR across Federal agencies.
The report draws on information and case studies gathered from Federal agencies, published research, and the experience of ECCR Forum members to identify and quantify the benefits of Federal Government use of ECCR. Numerous benefits are identified, including cost savings and timely decision-making, improved relationships between government and stakeholders, improved environmental and economic outcomes, and avoidance of litigation. The report also identifies recommendations to improve the effective use of ECCR in the Federal setting.
