The Stewart L. Udall Parks in Focus Program

Who We Are - Staff & Volunteers

Ernesto Somoza,
Tucson Volunteer

Ernesto (Ernie) is a media arts teacher at Pueblo High School in Tucson. Through teaching photography, videography, graphic/web design, and photo journalism, he is driven to empower his students and help them find their inner artist. Ernie’s commitment to his students continues outside of his classroom. He founded and leads the Pueblo High School Hiking Club and advises the Aperture Photography Club, where students explore black and white photography. He also works with Tucson youth through the Sierra Club’s Inspiring Connections Outdoors program.

Blending his love of education, photography, and the outdoors, Ernie has had several roles with Parks in Focus. He served as a summer trip leader in 2016 and 2017, leading programs throughout Tucson and in northern Arizona, including Grand Canyon National Park. He continues to volunteer his time to support the program.
