Nekiyah is studying biomedical engineering at Arizona State University, with an interest in prosthetics and rehabilitative engineering. She was raised on the Navajo Nation in Kayenta, Arizona. While growing up on the reservation, Nekiyah witnessed the overwhelming need for rehabilitation of veterans and diabetics in her family and community. This inspired her to study biomedical engineering so she could design and innovate medical devices and prosthetics to aid in this need. She is active in Native American organizations and engineering organizations on campus. In her downtime, she enjoys singing, volleyball, and spending time with her dog, Charlie, and her herd of sheep.
