Tribal Public Policy

Celeste "Thurbees" is from the Pueblo of Isleta. She is a descendant of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa through her maternal grandmother. She is entering her senior year at the University of New Mexico, where she studies environmental science and economics. Her passion for policy is rooted in her Native culture. She has demonstrated her commitment to the environment and Tribal public policy through participation in the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program, the Summer Policy Academy, and policy-related internships. Celeste was also selected as a 2023 Udall Native American Congressional Intern. She plans to pursue a juris doctorate, which will support her advocacy for Tribal public policy and environmental justice.
