Environment

Amara is a political science major with minors in environmental studies and philosophy. Her barriers to outdoor access have compelled her commitment to environmental justice. As the Director of Policy for the Maine Environmental Education Association, she coordinated Maine's first Climate Education Summit and advanced legislation resulting in a historic two-plus million dollar climate education program. She has been recognized as a Truman Scholar, National Geographic Young Explorer, and Brower Youth Awardee. On campus, Amara is a Ujima Global Leader and Indigenous Studies Circle member. Her thesis will examine environmental justice issues in her home country of Nigeria. She plans to pursue a juris doctorate to address environmental inequities through policy change.
