Tylar is Bdewakantunwan Dakota from Cansayapi (Lower Sioux Indian Community in Minnesota), descending from Goodthunder and Bluestone on his Mother’s side, and Wabasha, Chase, and Coursolle on his Father’s side. Currently a psychology major with a public health minor, Tylar is in the honors program at the University of South Dakota and holds leadership positions in multiple student organizations on campus. He has worked on Lower Sioux’s Health and Human Services Advisory Committee, where he helped to write and pass two policies, working closely with the American Indian Cancer Foundation. This opportunity is where Tylar discovered his passion and future goal of working to combat historical trauma in Native communities.
