Ariel is an environmental science major and inequality studies minor who is passionate about environmental justice issues impacting coastal communities and implementing equitable solutions. She serves as co-director of Duke’s Environmental Justice Campus Committee and has led a campus-wide initiative to install an environmental justice presidential committee. Her undergraduate thesis is on the cultural traditions surrounding subsistence fishing on the coast of North Carolina. She is a Rachel Carson Scholar, a Duke University program focused on marine science research, as well as an oral historian. In her free time, Ariel enjoys hiking and knitting.
